Meet The Team
WAI CHEUNG
From London to Bali and back again, SHIFT's co-founder is Wai Cheung.
I have a martial arts background, with a 4th Dan Black Belt, Team England Karate (U18 and U21) Head Coach and deeply passionate about coaching, be it one-on-one or working with groups.
I enjoy working with people of all capabilities and levels, providing sensible and science-based training programmes to reach your goals, whether fat-loss, preparing for a specific event, or kick-starting a lifestyle change you've been promising yourself. I'd be delighted help you.
Starting in London, SHIFT came about as a result of years of personal hard training and a desire to be healthier, fitter and stronger, whilst following a sporting background in competitive full-contact karate gaining major honours. The experiences and knowledge were taken to Bali, Indonesia where Studio Pilates Bali was born, and from which a fully equipped functional training and Pilates studio now thrives.
Shift is my method for a more healthy way of living and functioning.
KELLY BALMER
Kelly is Shift's co-founder, and holds a degree in sports therapy, a qualified personal trainer, yoga teacher and an Advanced STOTT Pilates instructor, with a serious pedigree and an exceptional wealth of training knowledge and injury management.
For many years she participated in competitive full contact karate tournaments, and attributes the length of her competitive career to a regular Pilates practice which ensured her body was resilient to the stress placed on it by such a demanding sport.
Kelly’s sporting successes, including British Champion and ranked no.3 in the world, have given her a great insight into what it takes to encourage and motivate her clients. This is reflected in her teaching style which focuses on delivering challenging yet balanced programmes with an emphasis on correct form, core awareness, breath and alignment.

Emma has been competing in Kyokushinkai Karate tournaments, a full contact fighting discipline, since the age of 16. She still competes regularly and has held titles including World, European and British Champion. Emma is a 3rd Dan black belt.
